Mayor Bettencourt's Inaugural Speech
I am honored to welcome you to the City of Peabody! As the newly elected Mayor, I hope you share my enthusiasm as we begin our journey together. Peabody is a vibrant community and a wonderful place to live and raise a family.
A wide variety of recreational activities are available to all residents. Brooksby Farm is a city-owned apple orchard that provides year-round family enjoyment and a scenic backdrop for autumn apple picking, winter cross-country skiing, and summer berry picking. In 2009, we proudly opened the Peabody Independence Greenway, a picturesque 4.8 mile bike path that runs from the North Shore Mall to the Ipswich River Trailhead.
The City features 20 parks and playgrounds, three branch libraries, and a Council on Aging considered the envy of the region. Peabody is also home to the George Peabody Civic Center and Leather Museum, the Leather City Common, and The Meadows Golf Course. We are conveniently located with easy access to Routes 114, 128, and 95, as well as the North Shore Mall which boasts stores and restaurants catering to all tastes.
Peabody Pride is on display each year at the International Festival, which celebrates our rich ethnic diversity. Other programs available to residents throughout the year include the annual Summer Concert Series, our newly established Farmer's Market, the Holiday Festival and Tree Lighting, and our spectacular Holiday Concert. Information relative to all of these great events can be found on the City of Peabody website, www.peabody-ma.gov.
It is with great Peabody Pride that I welcome you to our City and invite you to embrace the warmth, energy, and spirit that our community has to offer.
Edward A. Bettencourt, Jr.
Mayor, City of Peabody
