HEALTH DEPARTMENT
The Peabody Department of Health and Human Services promotes the health and well-being
of residents of (and visitors to) Peabody through the provision of school health
services, public immunization clinics, communicable disease follow-up, health education,
and the permitting and inspection of facilities such as food establishments, swimming
pools, tanning salons, and housing. The Department of Health and Human Services
also works on emergency preparedness in conjunction with a number of other city
and state agencies.

How to stay healthy during Flu season
Inspector's Responsibilities
Conduct routine inspections of camps, food service establishments, massage establishments,
mobile food operations, semi-public pools, skating rinks, and tanning facilities
to ensure that sanitary and safe conditions exist.
Approve plans for new establishments, and authorize the issuing of licenses and
permits for the above establishments.
Work with public health nurse to investigate reports of food-borne illnesses.
Enforce tobacco control regulations and smoke-free workplace regulations.
Investigate nuisance complaints and conduct follow-up inspections to ensure compliance
with state and local regulations.
Inspect premises where animals are stabled.
Enforce the State Sanitary Code, Articles I through X.

Public Health Nursing
Public Health Nursing The Public Health Nurse works towards the prevention of disease
and the promotion of health for all residents through health services, education,
and referral.
The Peabody Health Department offers an immunization clinic once a month. Routine
vaccines are available to Peabody residents, young and old, at no cost. Please call
the Public Health Nurse for dates and times and for additional information.
Each fall, the Health Department offers a flu and pneumonia vaccine clinic for high-risk
residents. Clinic dates will be posted in October, 2006.
